Born 1964, he studied musicology and chemistry in Heidelberg, Stuttgart, and Hamburg. From 1990 he assisted set designers Marco Arturo Marelli and Wolfgang Gussmann when developing productions in all major opera houses of Europe, Munich, Dresden, Paris, Amsterdam, Salzburg, Vienna, Venice, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid, Copenhagen, as well as Tokyo, Santiago de Chile, etc. He collaborates with Willy Decker (since 1992), Andreas Homoki, Jürgen Flimm, Johannes Schaaf, Harry Kupfer, and more.
Since 1991 he has been designing sets, costumes, and lighting for the opera houses of Hamburg, Munich, Nürnberg, Dresden, Vienna, Brussels, Aix-en-Provence, Paris, Oslo, Parma, Göteborg, Bogota, etc.
Since 2001 he has been working as stage director in Brussels, Antwerp, Ludwigsburg Festival, Munich, Torino, Tokyo, etc.
Since 2008 he has been teaching at the conservatory of Antwerp.
