What is a prop? Seems obvious, but it isn't. Apart from a bow, an apple, or a crown, also pieces of furniture are props in opera. There are those that 'play' onstage with the actors, and those that don't, such as a table with chairs, a coffin, antlers on the wall. An average production requires around a hundred of props. To navigate this limitless universe of objects that range from a brooch to a carpet, props masters must have an excellent memory and be extremely scrupulous.
