The revival of Krzysztof Pastor’s production of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet with Chicago’s Joffrey Ballet was a big success with audiences at the Auditorium Theatre (13–23 October). The production will travel to New York in the spring to be shown seven times on the stage of the David H. Koch Theater at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. Mr Pastor also staged his Romeo at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Vilnius (28 October), before returning to Warsaw to oversee last preparations before the opening of his take on Ravel's Bolero (25 November). Pastor’s future plans include staging his Adagio and Scherzo set to Schubert’s music, originally staged in Warsaw, at Theater Augsburg (10 December), while in January he begins rehearsals with the PNB for his version of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake set to open on 20 May 2017 in Warsaw.
In the meantime, Robert Bondara revived his Persona at the small stage of the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera (13 October). The Polish National Ballet later showed the performance in Tarnów at the Open Stage International Dance Theatre Festival (23 October). At the beginning of the season the choroeographer also visited Bydgoszcz, where he staged two pieces set to Karol Szymanowski’s music with the ballet company of Opera Nova. The premiere of Stabat Mater and Harnasie marked the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the Bydgoszcz Opera Stage (22 October). Bondara’s earlier double bill made up of Stravinsky’s Firebird and Bartók’s Miraculous Mandarin is now revived by the Wrocław Opera (24 listopada). Later in the season the opera house will stage El amor brujo by Manuel de Fallia (25 March).
Also Jacek Tyski is realising his choreografic ambitions. He staged Two Stories – One Dance set to improvised music by Piotr Orzechowski and Krzysztof Ścierański at the Kraków Opera (29 October). As of this season he became a resident choreographer of the Wrocław Opera. Soon the Wrocław audiece will have a chance to see his take on Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite (25 March), originally produced for Opera na Zamku in Szczecin, and his choreographic version of Mozart’s Requiem in D minor (13 April).
