
Initally he studied architecture in Grenoble and has worked as a set designer since 1975. He has created set designs for Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, Dinizetti's Maria Stuarda, Rossini's La Cenerentola, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Il turco in Italia (Royal Opera House), Bizet's Carmen, Beethoven's Fidelio, Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice (Welsh National Opera), Rossini's Armida, Mozart's La clemenza di Tito (Théâtre des Champs-Elysées), Bellini's I Capuleti e i Montecchi (Lisbon), Berg's Wozzeck, Thomas's Hamlet, R. Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier, Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen (Geneva), Janáček's Jenůfa (Spoleto Festival), Weill's Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny (Lausanne), Dukas's Ariane et Barbe-bleue, Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor (Opéra de Lyon), Puccini's Tosca, Verdi's Falstaff, Rota's Il cappello di paglia di Firenze (Opéra de Nantes), Puccini's Madame Butterfly, Hamlet (Royal Opera House and Barcelona), Halévy's Clari, Dalbavie's Gesualdo, Rossini's Mosè in Egitto, Le Comte Ory, Otello (Zurich), Glanert's Solaris (Bregenz), Händel's Giulio Cesare, Bellini's Norma (Salzburger Festspiele), Mozart's The Magic Flute (Wiener Staatsoper). He also design the set for an award-winning production of Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande (Brussels), La chair empoisonnée (Théâtre de la Ville, Paris) and plays by Lorka, Pirandell, Strindberg, Bond, Synge, and Marie N'Diaye (Prix Goncourt 2009) in collaboration with director Christophe Perton.
