Annual Gala Ceremony
Watch live on OperaVisionon 9 November at 19:00 CET.
Join us for the world’s leading celebration of excellence in opera, the International Opera Awards ceremony, taking place this year at the Polish National Opera, Teatr Wielki, Warsaw. Here, on our stage, on 9 November 2023, we will learn the names of the winners of this year’s ‘Operatic Oscars’.
Founded in 2012 by Harry Hyman, the International Opera Awards are held by the Opera Awards Foundation. Their founding media partner is the UK’s Opera magazine considered ‘the bible of the industry’. The prestigious Awards are given in approximately 20 categories each year to recognise the best individual artists, companies, institutions and events of the past opera season and to raise funds for aspiring talents (since 2012 the Foundation has provided bursaries of around £500,000).

The gala celebration will feature performances by excellent young singers: past winners and finalists of the Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition in Warsaw who are now enjoying thriving international careers, Juliana Grigoryan (Grand Prix, 2022), Gabriela Legun (Most Promising Polish Singer, 2022), Alejandro del Ángel (Third Prize, 2022), and Łukasz Goliński (Finalist, 2013), and recipients of this year’s Opera Awards whose names will be revealed at the last minute. The programme combines the most beautiful fragments from Moniuszko’s operas and gems of the international opera repertoire. Andriy Yurkevych conducts the soloists, Chorus and Orchestra of the Polish National Opera.
Last year, during the gala at Teatro Real Madrid, the Best Opera Company Award went to the Lviv National Academic Opera & Ballet Theatre jointly with the Odesa Opera & Ballet Theatre. This year’s gala will thus have a symbolic dimension manifesting itself in Ukrainian references in the programme.
Join us for this one-of-a-kind spectacular opera event that brings together the stars of today and tomorrow, prominent artists and leading critics, music lovers, trendsetters and all those who consider the art of opera the axis of their micro- and macrocosm.
