Izadora Weiss’s ballet is a manifesto for women’s independence and their right to choose their own path, regardless of how controversial it is. The author believes that in the era of social media, when everything is fabricated to the point of becoming an illusion of truth, the need to defend one’s identity becomes fundamental.
Two women – the fictional Roxana and the iconic writer Virginia Woolf – confront their weaknesses and mistakes as they strive for perfection in art and in life. Men also undergo a crisis of identity by succumbing to stereotypes that do not leave any space for their sensitivity or weakness. Everybody feels constantly judged and tested for endurance. We are all supposed to be perfect, which is a straightforward path to becoming ruthless, cold-hearted, and lonely.
Weiss’s original dance theatre is full of passion, ephemeral moments of happiness, and real human struggle in the contemporary world. It is a brave attempt to discuss the right to freedom and its limits.
