Polish National Ballet in the 2024/25 season

This season our ballet company treats its audiences to two new ballet productions: Clug's Peer Gynt set to music by Grieg and Pastor's Prometheus with a score combining Glass and Mozart pieces, while revivals include Neumeier's The Lady of the Camellias danced to Chopin's music.

15 years of the Polish National Ballet

Dracula opens in Helsinki

Krzysztof Pastor's popular ballet continues its procession through the world's stages. Set to music by Wojciech Kilar, the piece opens at the Finnish National Opera and Ballet on 1 March.

PNB JUNIOR IS HERE!

WALERY MAZEPCZYK is dead at 60

The Polish National Ballet ballet master and coach battled with a serious disease, yet we were hopeful for his return. His death at 60, on 23 June 2023, has left us deeply saddened. His memory will be a blessing.

Dutch masters of the Warsaw stage

The Polish National Opera and Nasza Fundacja are holding a charity gala for Ukraine on 14 April 2022. All proceeds will be donated to relief efforts for Ukrainian children. 

Krzysztof Pastor awarded Lithuanian honour

On 16 February 2022 President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda presented Krzysztof Pastor with the Officer's Cross of the Order for Merits to Lithuania during a ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Vilnius.

Exodus/Flights-Harnasie cancelled

The upcoming performances of Exodus/Flights-Harnasie on 11–13 February have been cancelled.

Renata Smukała's benefit

On Saturday, 29 January, during the performance of Kenneth MacMillan's Mayerling we will pay tribute to one of the greatest Polish ballet artists of the last half-century. Ballet mistress Renata Smukała marks 55 years of artistic career.

29 April is the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727–1810), eminent choreographer and reformer of ballet, and the International Dance Day established in his honour under the auspices of UNESCO to celebrate all people of dance.

Farewell to Liam Scarlett

He was a great talent of British ballet. To us he gave a beautiful choreographic take on Chopin’s Concerto in E minor. Liam Scarlett died on 16 April 2021 in his hometown of Ipswich. He was only 35.

Le Corsaire to open the ballet season

One of the most famous and the most spectacular ballets ever written returns on our stage after 150 years in a staging by prominent French dancer and choreographer Manuel Legris.  

Pastor bids farewell to Vilnius

Krzysztof Pastor ended his collaboration with the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, where he had been artistic director for the Lithuanian National Ballet for 9 years. He is succeeded by Martynas Rimeikis.

CREATIONS 2020 ONLINE

Krzysztof Pastor invites all ballet lovers to an unusual 12th edition of the Polish National Ballet’s choreographic workshop, which this season will exceptionally take place online. Works by our artists will be available on vod.teatrwielki.pl for two weeks from 5 June onwards.

International Dance Day 2020

There has not been an International Dance Day like this since 1982, when this global celebration of dance was created. With the coronavirus lockdown in place, there is no way any events involving a live audience can be held on 29 April and so the celebrations are moving online.

PNB Announces Promotions to Principal Dancer

Starting from January 2020, the Polish National Ballet has four Principal Dancers whose talents have long been shining brightly in the company led by Krzysztof Pastor. 

DAGMARA DRYL RETIRES FROM THE STAGE

One of the Polish National Ballet's leading artists, Dagmara Dryl, has made the decision to end her stage career of nearly 20 years. She will bid her farewells to the stage on 29 December dancing Luisa in The Nutcracker for the last time.

PATRYK WALCZAK NAMED BEST CLASSICAL DANCER

This year's Jan Kiepura Music Theatre Award for Best Classical Dancer was presented to Patryk Walczak. PNB's first soloist had been nominated for the accolade for his appearance as Armand Duval in John Neimeier's The Lady of the Camellias.  

KSENIA OVSYANICK TO MAKE A GUEST APPEARANCE WITH PBN

Ksenia Ovsyanick, the Russian star of the Staatsballett Berlin, will make a guest appearance with the Polish National Ballet dancing Mathilde Kschessinska in Krzysztof Pastor's Swan Lake on 1, 3 and 5 October.

Yuka Ebihara receives a Silver Gloria Artis Medal

The Japanese star of our ballet company Yuka Ebihara has just been presented with a Silver Gloria Artis Medal for Services to Culture by Poland's minister of culture and national heritage at the request of the Union of Polish Stage Artists (ZASP).   

Pastor's Dracula named Best New Work in West Australia

Krzysztof Pastor's Dracula staged by the West Australian Ballet has just been presented with the Performing Arts WE Award for Best New Work.  

10 Years of the Polish National Ballet

On 29 April 2009 the Warsaw ballet company became the Polish National Ballet, an autonomous artistic entity within the Teatr Wielki. 

Fredriana, or a night with Fredro and Moniuszko

The Polish National Ballet is yet again drawing inspiration from Polish literary and musical heritage, specifically Aleksander Fredro and Stanisław Moniuszko.

Known as Creations, the Polish National Ballet's choreographic workshop has become tradition ever since it was started by Krzysztof Pastor in 2009. 

PNB goes to Montreal

The Polish National Ballet will perform in Montreal, Canada at the turn of February and March 2019. The company will treat the three thousand-strong audience of the Place des Arts to a ten-date run of Krzysztof Pastor's take on Swan Lake.

FELIKS MALINOWSKI DIED IN PARIS

Feliks Malinowski, our 1960s danseur noble, died on 30 August 2018 in Paris at the age of 82. He debuted on the Warsaw stage in 1959 and was Teatr Wielki's first soloist from 1966 to 1970.

New dancers for the 2018/19 season

The Polish National Ballet has resumed their regular activity after the summer break, welcoming 14 new dancers. This season is the company's tenth with Krzysztof Pastor at the helm.

Having successfully danced Armand Duval in John Neumeier's Lady of the Camellias and the leading role of Tsarevich Nicky in Krzysztof Pastor's Swan Lake, Patryk Walczak was promoted to First Soloist, the highest rank in the Polish National Ballet.

Robert Bondara wins a prize in Bordeaux

Robert Bondara has won one of the three top prizes at the second edition of the Classical and Neoclassical Young Choreographers' Competition in Bordeaux. 

We'll be dancing in Brno

The Polish National Ballet has received an invitation to dance at Dance Brno 100 on 26 May. The festival is one of the highlights of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of Czech independence.

The Lady of the Camellias to open on 20 April 2018

John Neumeier's choreographic masterpiece after the novel by Alexandre Dumas, fils, set to a wide selection of Fryderyk Chopin's music enters the repertoire of the Polish National Ballet. Nine performances are scheduled this season in Warsaw.

PASTOR + KILAR = DRACULA

Krzysztof Pastor is in Australia for rehearsals for his new ballet, Dracula. Set to a medley of Wojciech Kilar's pieces, the choreography will be given its debut by West Australian Ballet on 6 September in Perth.

The world-famous American choreographer and director of the Hamburg Ballet spent two days with the Polish National Ballet casting his Lady of the Camellias before its Polish premiere planned for 20 April.  

Melissa Abel debuts as Clara

Our young American-born ballerina Melissa Abel has successfully made her debut as Clara in The Nutcracker alongside Maksim Woitiul and Patryk Walczak. 

PBN Stars in Vilnius

Chinara Alizade and Vladimir Yaroshenko will treat the Vilnius ballet audience to their perormance in Don Quixote at the National Opera and Ballet Theatre on 29 December. 

Departures from the PBN

New Dancers Join the PBN

Personnel changes

The beginning of the 2017/18 season brings some personnel changes in the Polish National Ballet. We have seen some promotions, farewells, and new arrivals.

Chinara Alizade and Vladimir Yaroshenko have accepted the invitation from director of the State Ballet of Georgia and famous ballerina, Nina Ananishvili and will represent the Polish National Ballet at the Tbilisi Ballet Festival.

Yuka Ebihara and Vladimir Yaroshenko have been named the best classical ballet dancers in Poland, receiving the 2017 Jan Kiepura Music Theatre Awards.  

Bolero at the Wawel Castle

The Polish National Ballet will conclude the 2016/17 season on 29 June with a performance of Krzysztof Pastor’s Bolero at the courtyard of the Wawel Royal Castle as part of the 21st Kraków Opera Summer Festival.

Chinara Alizade has danced in Vilnius and Minsk

The Polish National Ballet’s first soloist, Chinara Alizade has returned from her guest performances in Vilnius, Lithuania and Minsk, Belarus. 

The Joffrey takes Pastor’s piece to NYC

Three years after its triumphant opening in Chicago, the Joffrey Ballet is taking Krzysztof Pastor’s Romeo and Juliet to New York’s David H. Koch Theatre at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.   

Dawid Trzensimiech to dance in Bologna

The Polish National Ballet’s first soloist Dawid Trzensimiech will perform at the Roberto Bolle and Friends gala in Bologna on 16 March.

The Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre will celebrate Krzysztof Pastor’s 60th birthday with a showcase of his choreographies and a gala featuring dancers of the Polish National Ballet and a string of international ballet stars led by Svetlana Zakharova.

Robert Bondara's choreographic career is gaining momentum. His Stabat Mater and Harnasie set to Szymanowski's music are in the last stages of rehearsals at Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Krzysztof Pastor's production of Romeo and Juliet is constantly attracting new audiences. This season it will run in Vilnius, Chicago and New York, yet first the PNB brings it to the Hague. 

Promotions at the PNB

As of 1 September 2016 PNB soloist Dagmara Dryl will be raised to the rank of first soloist, coryphée Palina Rusetskaya will be promoted to soloist and dancer Shunpike Mizui will become a coryphée.

What's new at the PNB?

The Polish National Ballet has bid farewell to a few artists and is welcoming new dancers who have passed an international audition that attracted over 700 candidates this year.

Krzysztof Pastor's successful year 2016

For Krzysztof Pastor the year 2016 was abundant in successes. The director of the Polish National Ballet was honoured with the ZAIKS Authors Association Award for his choreographic achievements and saw many of his works being presented at home and abroad.  

PNB to stage Chopiniana in autumn

Michel Fokine's choreographic gem inspired by Fryderyk Chopin music will soon enter the repertoire of the Polish National Ballet. The new production is being devised by Russian ballet masters Alexei Fadeyechev and Tatyana Rastorgueva.

New Ballet Based on Gombrowicz

The Polish National Ballet will present its latest premiere on 14 February 2015. Titled Pupa (Bottom), it is a collaboration of composer Stanisław Syrewicz, his daughter Klara the librettist, and young choreographer Anna Hop, who have drawn inspiration from Ferdydurke by Witold Gombrowicz.

PNB at Belweder
